So, who would have imagined that little ole me would be considered a vegan chef? Ha! Well, at least for one day I was. I had such an amazing time with the amazing Jane Velez-Mitchell yesterday. She came to my house with the equally fabulous Lisa Karlin (co producer of #lunchbreaklive) and I made a delicious vegan meal that was broadcast on Facebook Live! You can see me in action HERE! I made spiralized zuccini with a peanut sauce
And… a decadent chocolate pudding!
It’s easier than ever before to go vegan, or at least incorporate more plant based foods into your diet.
One question I’m often asked is, “so, I know you’re vegan, but do you eat carbs?” It can definitely be confusing for a lot of people.
Being vegan doesn’t have anything to do with cutting carbs. Being a vegan is definitely more of a lifestyle choice and a philosophy than a diet. A vegan doesn’t eat anything that is of animal origin. Vegans will not use animal based products for clothing, or any other purpose.
Vegans also care about the earth; the environment. Livestock farming can have a devastating effect on the planet. Producing food through animal farming is inefficient, because animal feed production takes up a lot of land, fertilizer, water, and other resources.
Many people who are unfamiliar with the vegan lifestyle have concerns that they won’t get enough nutrients in a plant based diet. Here is some awesome info on that!
Animal champion, Gary Yourofsky states on his website:
When I became vegan on July 24, 1996, and finally understood that animals have an inherent right to be free and live completely unfettered by human domination, I wondered why it took me more than 25 years to attain this nonviolent awakening.
I began to ask, “Who taught me that animals were put on this Earth for food? Who taught me to disrespect animals and view them as mere commodities? Who stole my compassion, my empathy and my conscience? Who lied to me? Who instilled this vicious mindset of human-to-animal exploitation as standard operating procedure?”
Over the years as I gave 2,660 lectures to more than 60,000 people at 186 schools in 30 states and several Israeli cities/schools, I asked tens of thousands of meat, dairy and egg-eaters similar questions. “Who told you to eat the corpses of dismembered animals and reduce your body to a walking graveyard? Who stole your compassion, your empathy and your conscience? Who lied to you? Why do you embrace such meaningless violence and then make inane rationalizations about the suffering of innocent creatures?”
