Me Bloggy and Linky!

When my life long dream came true of being a published author in 2008, I also had to learn about marketing and promoting. One thing that non -fiction authors are encouraged to do is blog. Being technologically challenged, my husband, Adolfo helped me set one up on Blogger. I was excited to get my message out and have fun writing creative posts. I blogged on a semi regular basis, but never really put my heart into it. I was working full time at the Beverly Hills matchmaking agency, writing more books and promoting them on radio and TV shows as well as trying to be domestic by cooking and cleaning for my wonderful husband. I was busy and bushed! So, as you can imagine, my blog was not all it could be, and to tell you the truth, I didn’t know much about making one really snazzy and a great destination. One evening I attended a writer’s meet up and the speaker was a popular blogger called Justine Musk. She gave some great tips on becoming a “real” blogger. One of them was by using WordPress instead of Blogger. She said that bloggers that are taken seriously us WordPress. Well, whether that is true or not, I wanted to be taken seriously, so I moved my butt over here!

I immediately noticed some traffic increase once I moved, but my little blog was just limping along and looked very plain. My lovely, little brain just could not “get” how to navigate the in’s and out’s of using the site… how to add a sidebar, widgets, etc. and just plain make it look better. One day my dear cyber friend, Katherine Corrigan (www.katherinescorner.com) whom I connected with after she so kindly reviewed my 3rd book, Diary of a Beverly Hills Matchmaker, emailed me and said, “Sweetie, your blog needs a makeover. Let me help you.” Ohhhh yes!!!! I did need a makeover and gladly accepted her kind offer. I love my blog now and enjoy blogging regularly, sharing and connecting with my readers. I also love reading other peoples blogs and meeting new friends. Katherine is my blog guru and friend, and I adore her for her generous spirit. She has asked me to be her co-host for this week’s blog hop! This is fun.

So interesting to hear that WordPress is for ‘serious’ bloggers. I find it more passive – meaning it is harder to find the ‘follow me’ functionality to it, it is harder to leave comments (they make you sign up for WordPress to do so) …. All that said, I have been wondering if I should switch. And if I do, will I lose my blogger followers? Would love any tips you have!
(and btw, I am following you .. only on Bloglovin feed)
